Fish Plant Worker – Seasonal Production Role

About the role

Join St. Mary's Bay Fisheries as a seasonal Fish Plant Worker in a fast‑paced seafood processing environment. You will help transform fresh catches into market‑ready products while working in a noisy, odorous, and temperature‑varying setting.

Key responsibilities

• Cut, clean, trim, and weigh fish fillets according to specifications.
• Unload fish and shellfish from vessels and transport them by hand or forklift.
• Operate machines for cutting, cooking, smoking, brining, dehydrating, canning, bagging, boxing, or other packaging processes.
• Inspect products for defects, adjust machinery, and record production data.
• Sort fish by species, weight, and destination; apply chemicals where required.
• Maintain a clean work area, clean machines, and handle waste safely.

Required profile

• Ability to work in noisy, dusty, wet, hot or refrigerated conditions.
• Physical stamina for repetitive tasks, heavy lifting (up to 23 kg), standing for long periods, and frequent bending, crouching, or kneeling.
• Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, night shifts, weekends and on‑call schedules.
• Own reliable transportation; public transport not available.

Required skills

• Forklift operation.
• Machine operation for cutting, cooking, smoking, brining, dehydrating, canning, and packaging.
• Accurate weighing and measuring of fish and ingredients.
• Use of personal protective equipment (steel‑toed boots, gloves, hard hat, mask, safety vest).
