First Cook

About the role

We are looking for a motivated First Cook to join our Italian‑focused restaurant in Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking complete meals, managing kitchen operations and ensuring high standards of food safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Determine portion sizes and calculate food costs.
• Plan menus and estimate food requirements for service.
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies, order equipment and maintain inventory records.
• Prepare and cook complete meals and individual dishes, following Italian cuisine standards.
• Inspect kitchen and food service areas for cleanliness and compliance.
• Train, supervise and schedule kitchen staff and helpers.
• Recruit, hire and manage kitchen personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of food, supplies and equipment.
• Clean kitchen work areas and ensure a safe working environment.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation (high school) certificate.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in a restaurant kitchen.
• Client‑focused, organized, reliable, team‑player with strong time‑management skills.
• Availability to work evenings, days, weekends, on‑call shifts and overtime as needed.

Required skills

• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
• Safe Food Handling Certificate.
