Fire Chief

About the role

The Town of Whitby is seeking a senior leader to head its Fire & Emergency Services. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief will guide the department’s strategic direction, ensure high‑quality emergency response, and support community safety initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall senior leadership and strategic direction for all sections of Whitby Fire & Emergency Services.
• Oversee daily operations delivering public education, fire prevention, suppression and rescue services.
• Manage staff training programs and coordinate emergency management activities.
• Balance service delivery with municipal budget constraints and taxpayers’ funding.
• Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team to advance the objectives of the CAO, Mayor and Council.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in fire services or emergency management.
• Proven ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of municipal budgeting and public sector accountability.
• Commitment to community safety and public service.
