Financial Controller – Retail Multi‑Unit

About the role

Peavey Mart, a growing multi‑unit retailer in Red Deer County, Alberta, is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead its accounting function across all store locations. This hands‑on role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, safeguarding cash flow, and providing the visibility needed for strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full‑cycle accounting process for all stores, from journal entries to month‑end and year‑end close.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and supplier payment approvals.
• Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and consistent accounting policies across units.
• Monitor cash flow, forecast short‑ and long‑term needs, and manage banking relationships.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, P&L reports, and KPI dashboards.
• Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and coordinate year‑end working papers with external accountants.
• Ensure timely filing of GST and other statutory remittances.
• Supervise, train, and mentor the accounting team while establishing strong internal controls.
• Partner with store managers on cost control, inventory accounting, and shrinkage analysis.

Required profile

• CPA designation preferred or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or controllership experience, preferably in multi‑location retail.
• Proven track record managing full‑cycle accounting, cash flow, and payment approvals.
• Experience supervising accounting or bookkeeping staff.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.

Required skills
