Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead the financial planning and analysis function for a company that operates in both Canada and the United States. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role requires strong business acumen, strategic insight, and the ability to influence decision‑making across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for Canadian and US entities.
• Supervise a finance team of 7‑10 professionals.
• Prepare supporting documentation for the annual audit.
• Document and maintain complete records of all financial transactions.
• Develop and maintain accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and petty cash.
• Oversee reconciliation of bank and investment accounts.
• Prepare non‑consolidated and consolidated monthly statements and variance reports.
• Process payroll files bi‑weekly for Canada and the US.
• Manage human‑resource functions, including policy development, income maximisation, administrative oversight, lease and contract management, and regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Financial Accounting or Business Administration.
• CPA designation.
• 8‑10 years of progressive financial responsibility.
• Experience with US accounting, multi‑state sales taxes and income taxes.
• Strong computer proficiency and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and make decisions.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical, with strong time‑management and organization.
• Proven experience managing a finance team.
