About the role
Our client, a leading retailer‑manufacturer, is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls and compliance. The role reports to senior leadership and is responsible for delivering accurate financial intelligence and safeguarding assets.
Key responsibilities
- Direct the full‑cycle production of periodic financial statements in compliance with ASPE.
- Provide decision‑ready financial intelligence to senior executives on predictable timelines.
- Govern the general ledger, ensuring transaction integrity, accurate classification and reliable data.
- Drive monthly and annual close cycles, enforcing disciplined deadlines and quality standards.
- Own the corporate budgeting and rolling forecast processes, translating variances into actionable narratives.
- Build financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic decision‑making.
- Design and maintain a robust internal control environment to protect organizational assets.
- Conduct risk evaluations and manage internal and external audit programs from planning through resolution.
- Maintain full compliance with federal and provincial tax obligations, serving as liaison with tax specialists and audit firms.
- Oversee cash positioning, liquidity forecasting, working‑capital optimization and banking relationships.
- Supervise transactional finance functions including payables, receivables and payroll administration.
- Collaborate with operations leadership to ensure precise inventory valuation and accurate cost‑of‑goods‑sold reporting.
- Assess and refine financial infrastructure, champion ERP deployments and automation initiatives.
Required profile
- CPA designation.
- 6+ years of experience in manufacturing, retail or a related sector.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE (Canadian GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
- Experience with internal controls, audit coordination and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cash, liquidity and banking relationships.
- Understanding of corporate, GST/HST and payroll tax compliance.
