Financial Controller (Hybrid, Toronto)

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead full‑cycle accounting for Refine Finance’s client portfolio from a hybrid office in Toronto. You will ensure accurate bookkeeping, timely financial reporting and provide data‑driven insights that support strategic decisions for small and mid‑size businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day general ledger activities and oversee the complete accounting cycle.
• Prepare, review and deliver balance sheets, income statements and cash‑flow statements for multiple clients.
• Monitor cash flow, support budgeting and forecasting processes, and generate analytical reports.
• Maintain internal controls, coordinate audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards, sales tax, EHT, WSIB and payroll regulations.
• Continuously improve reporting processes using AI‑enhanced tools and real‑time analytics.
• Collaborate with internal teams and client stakeholders to explain financial performance and contribute to long‑term financial planning.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in full‑cycle accounting and general‑ledger management.
• Proven experience preparing and reviewing financial statements.
• Advanced analytical ability to interpret financial data and identify trends.
• Professional designation (CPA or equivalent) and a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field.
• Experience in a controller or senior accounting role supporting multiple fast‑growing clients.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail in a hybrid work environment.
