Excavator Operator - Underground Construction

About the role

GS Construction is hiring 12 Excavator Operators for underground construction work in the Edmonton region of Alberta. The position is seasonal and full-time, 40 to 60 hours per week depending on weather, with morning, day and weekend shifts and overtime. The employer provides transportation when the job site is outside the City of Edmonton.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the ground for pipeline installation as required.
• Operate heavy equipment such as hydraulic excavators and hoes, and operate trenchers (large or small).
• Clean and lubricate equipment, refill tanks, carry out pre-operational checks and secure special attachments.
• Perform minor repairs and ensure the trench is excavated to the specified depth and grade.
• Place water, storm and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.
• Follow the foreman's directions on craning, gravel placement and grading, and use radios and other communication equipment.
• Keep the site safe, comply with safety and ground disturbance regulations, and report problems or defects.

Required profile

• 2 years of related experience.
• Basic English; education not required.
• Ability to handle up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and work outdoors in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
• Own steel-toed safety boots; must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Reliable, flexible team player with good interpersonal skills.
