Engineering Specialist – Diesel Powertrain

About the role

Metrolinx is seeking an Engineering Specialist to lead technical investigations and continuous improvement of its diesel bus fleet. The role is based onsite at the 20 Bay Street office and works closely with maintenance, operations, reliability engineering, and OEM partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead investigations into complex diesel powertrain, emissions after‑treatment, cooling, driveline and related system failures.
• Collaborate with OEM engineering teams to develop, validate and implement corrective actions for recurring fleet issues.
• Perform root‑cause analysis and develop permanent solutions to improve fleet reliability, safety and maintainability.
• Support the introduction of new vehicle technologies and provide technical expertise for diesel‑powered rail locomotive systems.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience with heavy‑vehicle diesel powertrains (transit buses, highway coaches, heavy trucks or diesel rail).
• Proven ability to investigate complex vehicle issues and work alongside maintenance teams.
• Strong collaboration skills with OEM engineering groups and internal stakeholders.
