Engineering Manager – Metadata

About the role

Fivetran and dbt Labs are building the data infrastructure that powers modern analytics. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Metadata team, which owns the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run‑history services that help customers understand and trust their data.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, hire, onboard, and coach a team of software engineers, providing regular 1:1s and career development plans.
• Own project delivery against quarterly plans and be accountable for service reliability, uptime, and latency targets.
• Review technical designs and code, ensuring high architectural quality and performance.
• Drive incident response, tech‑debt reduction, and post‑mortem processes to meet SLA metrics.
• Partner with product stakeholders to maintain a realistic, prioritized backlog and achieve high sprint completion rates.
• Promote the use of AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT) to accelerate development and improve documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing and growing a software engineering team, including hiring and performance management.
• Strong technical foundation in distributed, cloud‑based systems and ability to make sound architectural trade‑offs.
• Track record of delivering complex, high‑throughput projects on schedule while maintaining reliability and performance standards.
• Experience owning production services, handling on‑call duties, and meeting SLA targets.
• Excellent communication skills across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
