About the role

Huawei Canada’s Advanced Wireless Technology Lab in Ottawa is seeking an Engineer to lead physical‑layer research for 5G, 6G and beyond. The role involves designing, simulating and prototyping cutting‑edge wireless radio systems and algorithms.

Key responsibilities

• Research innovative physical‑layer technologies to advance 5G, 6G and future wireless standards.
• Design, analyse, model, simulate and prototype wireless radio systems and sub‑systems at the system level.
• Create and simulate radio algorithms for advanced wireless radio access technologies.
• Drive implementation of radio algorithms in both hardware and software environments.
• Monitor state‑of‑the‑art academic and industry technologies, validate ideas through analysis, simulation and prototyping.
• Support tasks for standardisation bodies such as 3GPP and IEEE.
• Stay current with emerging trends in advanced radio access technology research and development.
• Generate invention disclosures and assist with patent applications.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in wireless telecommunications (e.g., information theory, DSP, channel coding, MIMO, beamforming, resource allocation).
• Strong expertise in air‑interface design, physical‑layer algorithm development and cross‑layer optimisation.
• Proven ability to build end‑to‑end link‑level or system‑level simulation tools for performance evaluation.
• Excellent mathematical and analytical capabilities.
• Strong C/C++ programming proficiency.
