About the role
As an Energy Manager, you will support the delivery of the Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) program, a multi‑year energy initiative at South Durham Region building sites. You will collaborate closely with the client’s facilities team and Blackstone’s project teams to achieve energy‑savings targets.
Key responsibilities
- Support energy tracking using utility data, submeters and BAS trends; develop and monitor KPIs.
- Perform primary assessments by reviewing energy studies, commissioning reports, BAS documentation and conducting walk‑throughs to identify improvement opportunities.
- Review mechanical systems and BAS controls, recommending sequencing and scheduling enhancements.
- Coordinate proposed changes with the client’s facilities team and controls trades to implement improvements.
- Use analytics and Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) outputs to support troubleshooting and retro‑commissioning.
- Verify equipment installations conform to energy‑saving requirements and design intent.
- Identify, prioritize and recommend energy efficiency and GHG reduction measures; develop action plans and support funding applications.
- Collaborate with project and construction managers on implementation, commissioning and post‑implementation performance checks.
- Support Measurement and Verification (M&V) plans, collecting baseline and post‑retrofit data.
- Maintain a project registry of energy‑saving opportunities and provide required reporting.
Required profile
- College diploma or engineering degree in Mechanical, Energy Engineering or related discipline.
- Willingness to register as an Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) and pass the exam within the first year; P.Eng., CEM, EMIT or equivalent designations are strong assets.
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience in energy management, building performance, retro‑commissioning or analytics‑driven optimization.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls and building operations in institutional or commercial environments.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with facility operators and maintenance teams.
- Ability to support measurement and verification activities and coordinate with M&V specialists.

- Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
- ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM).
- RETScreen.
- Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) platforms.
- Building Automation Systems (BAS) control analysis.
