Emergency Medicine Physician – Part/Full Time

About the role

West Coast General Hospital is seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Physicians for part‑time and full‑time positions in Port Alberni, BC. The role includes providing 24‑hour emergency care at the hospital’s modern ED and may involve covering occasional shifts at the regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo. Academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia offers teaching opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency medical assessment, treatment and disposition for patients of all ages.
• Operate and interpret imaging modalities, including CT scans, and utilize the hospital’s PACS system.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across specialties such as surgery, radiology, and intensive care.
• Participate in on‑call schedules and provide coverage for the regional ED in Nanaimo as needed.
• Engage in teaching and mentorship of medical students and residents through the UBC affiliation.

Required profile

• Board‑eligible or board‑certified in Emergency Medicine.
• CPSBC (USA) registration accepted.
• Willingness to practice in a community hospital setting and relocate to Port Alberni.
• Ability to start as soon as possible.

Required skills

• CT imaging interpretation.
• PACS system operation.
• Emergency department clinical management.
