Electrical Estimator (Commercial Construction)

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Alberta Region team is expanding and seeks a committed Electrical Estimator. Reporting to the Construction Operations Manager, you will analyze costs, prepare take‑offs and develop accurate estimates for commercial electrical projects across Alberta.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for commercial construction projects, including material, labour and equipment costs based on bids, drawings and specifications.
• Advise on tendering procedures, evaluate tenders, recommend awards and participate in negotiations.
• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, designers and architects and maintain a directory of contacts.
• Participate in site reviews, tender hand‑offs, project close‑out meetings and other stakeholder sessions.
• Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs and keep the estimating database up‑to‑date.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in electrical engineering, construction technology or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience accurately estimating electrical projects in the commercial construction sector with a strong profit record.
• Demonstrated competencies such as change orientation, effective communication, problem‑solving and teamwork.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Experience using MS Project.
• Familiarity with JD Edwards, Accubid and Bid2Win.
