About the role

The Winnipeg Free Press, a historic Canadian newspaper, is seeking a visionary Editor‑in‑Chief to lead its integrated newsroom across print and digital platforms. Reporting to the CEO and joining the executive team, the role will shape editorial strategy, uphold journalistic standards, and drive audience‑centric growth.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute an ambitious editorial vision that balances public‑service journalism with modern digital consumption.
• Lead and mentor a high‑performing editorial team, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable newsroom culture.
• Oversee day‑to‑day newsroom operations, ensuring rigorous, accurate, and compelling content across all platforms.
• Partner with product, audience development, and commercial teams to grow digital readership, subscriptions, and new revenue streams.
• Represent the organization publicly, building relationships with civic leaders, community groups, and industry stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading senior editorial teams in a multi‑platform media environment.
• Strong track record of maintaining editorial independence while collaborating with commercial functions.
