Early Childhood Educator

About the role

The Early Childhood Educator will report to the Childcare Manager and provide safe, high‑quality childcare for participants of the qʷayac̓iikʔiis Headstart Childcare Centre. The role requires maintaining confidentiality and meeting federal, provincial and municipal regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Daycare Supervisor in developing and individualising the curriculum and daily schedule.
• Deliver developmentally and culturally appropriate activities that balance active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group experiences.
• Support children’s self‑help, play, social skills and understanding of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture and values.
• Maintain a safe environment by supervising children, monitoring hazards, and following health, hygiene and medication procedures.
• Communicate daily updates to parents, respect their instructions, and encourage their participation in program activities.

Required profile

• Certificate in Early Childhood Education with a current licence to practice.
• 2‑3 years of experience working with infants, toddlers or preschool‑aged children, preferably in an Indigenous‑focused setting.
• Current First Aid, Food Safe certifications, up‑to‑date immunisations, clear TB test and a satisfactory vulnerable‑sector criminal record check.
