Director, Technology SME – Second Line Technology Risk

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Director, Technology SME for its Second Line Technology Risk team. The role provides independent oversight of the technology function, embedding deep technical expertise into risk assessment and management. Working at the intersection of technology, security and resilience, the Director will ensure that security and resilience are built into products and platforms from the outset.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent second‑line oversight of technology risk, challenging architecture, engineering and operational decisions.
• Apply deep engineering and architectural expertise to embed security and resiliency principles by design.
• Engage with senior technology leaders (CTOs, EVP/SVP) to influence priorities and shape risk outcomes.
• Assess implementation of technology policies, standards and governance to drive scalable risk outcomes.
• Evaluate technology and operational incidents, focusing on response effectiveness, root‑cause analysis and durable corrective actions.
• Drive key initiatives for senior leadership and contribute to advancing a strong risk culture.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in software engineering, system architecture and technology risk management.
• Proven ability to influence senior technology stakeholders and provide credible challenge.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on proactive identification of emerging risks.
• Track record of improving risk management processes and incident response effectiveness.
