Director, Planning

About the role

The Director, Planning provides strategic leadership and governance for all planning activities across shipbuilding and ship repair programs. This senior position ensures that integrated, risk‑informed plans are created, maintained, and used as essential tools for on‑time, efficient project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead the enterprise planning strategy, standards, methodologies, tools, and governance across all programs.
• Ensure project and program plans accurately reflect execution strategy, contractual commitments, scope, and maturity while maintaining consistency and compliance.
• Provide executive oversight of integrated program and project planning, including milestones, sequencing, critical interfaces, constraints, and recovery strategies.
• Assess portfolio‑level planning performance, trends, and risks; identify leading indicators and present actionable recommendations to senior management.
• Establish and monitor KPIs to measure planning quality, predictability, readiness, and delivery performance.
• Oversee impact evaluation of changes, delays, claims, and replanning activities with credible analysis.
• Lead, develop, and succession‑plan the planning organization, attracting and retaining senior planning talent.
• Act as the senior planning authority and trusted advisor to senior management.

Required profile

• 10–15 years of progressive experience in planning, project controls, or a related field.
• At least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Significant experience with large‑scale shipbuilding and/or ship repair projects (strong asset).
• Strong knowledge of project controls principles aligned with AACEI and PMI (PMBOK) standards.
• Solid understanding of project delivery phases, activities, and deliverables.
