Director of Financial Reporting

About the role
The Forest Group, a leading construction‑materials and infrastructure services provider in the Greater Toronto Area, is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting. Reporting directly to the Owner/CEO, you will shape the company’s financial strategy, reporting framework, and operational performance in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with the Owner/CEO on strategic planning, growth initiatives and profitability improvement.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, accounting for seasonality and project‑based revenue.
- Manage cash flow, working capital and credit facilities to support payroll, inventory and project costs.
- Oversee accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for owners, lenders and other stakeholders.
- Direct accounting operations including job costing, revenue recognition, work‑in‑progress reporting and margin analysis across multiple divisions.
- Maintain banking relationships, ensure compliance with loan agreements and financial covenants, and prepare lender reporting packages.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as gross margins, labour productivity, equipment utilisation and overhead absorption.
- Provide financial analysis to support pricing, staffing, capital investments and expansion decisions.
- Assess and manage financial risks including labour costs, material price fluctuations, fuel costs, inventory and customer credit exposure.
- Lead treasury functions, debt management, cash reserves and capital allocation strategies.
- Support acquisitions, due‑diligence, valuation analysis and post‑acquisition integration.
- Mentor finance, payroll and administrative teams and drive continuous improvement of financial systems and reporting processes.
Required profile
- Hands‑on finance leader with extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
- Proven ability to work closely with senior executives on strategic initiatives and profitability improvement.
- Strong understanding of construction or project‑based businesses, including job costing and revenue recognition.
- Experience managing banking relationships, loan covenants and treasury functions.
- Excellent analytical skills with a track record of translating complex financial data into actionable business insights.
- Leadership experience supervising finance, payroll and administrative teams.
