About the role
The Director of EMS Operations leads the strategic and day‑to‑day management of ground ambulance services for Associated Ambulance across Alberta. Reporting to the COO, this senior leader ensures high‑quality emergency medical care, operational efficiency and workforce stability throughout rural and metropolitan locations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for daily EMS and Inter‑Facility Transfer operations across multiple regions.
- Monitor performance through KPIs and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Lead, mentor and develop managers, supervisors and frontline teams, fostering a culture of accountability and psychological safety.
- Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, retention and employee engagement.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with health authorities, municipalities and community stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and contractual requirements while promoting patient safety.
- Manage operational budgets, resource allocation and financial performance to sustain service delivery.
Required profile
- Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) or equivalent clinical background preferred.
- Post‑secondary education in healthcare, business, leadership or related field.
- 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in EMS or healthcare operations.
- Proven experience managing multi‑site, unionized operations and understanding of Alberta’s EMS system.
