Director, Middle Markets – Alberta

About the role

Zurich Canada is seeking a Director for its Middle Markets portfolio across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Reporting to the Vice President, Middle Markets, Western Region, you will lead profitable growth, strengthen broker relationships and develop underwriting talent.

Key responsibilities

• Lead profitable growth and performance of the Middle Markets portfolio across the Prairies.
• Execute regional business strategies aligned with Zurich Canada’s commercial insurance objectives.
• Strengthen relationships with key broker partners and drive strategic broker engagement.
• Expand market visibility and position across target industries and customer segments.
• Oversee underwriting execution and portfolio management to ensure disciplined growth.
• Develop, coach and inspire underwriters, building future leadership capability.
• Collaborate with National Accounts, Financial Lines and other units to identify cross‑selling opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in commercial property & casualty insurance, including underwriting and leadership roles.
• Proven track record of delivering profitable growth through portfolio management and broker engagement.
• Strong strategic thinking, business planning and execution capabilities.
• Excellent relationship‑building, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Preferred: advanced knowledge of Middle Market P&C insurance, established broker relationships in Western Canada, and professional insurance designation (CIP, FCIP, CRM, etc.).
