Developer - Power System Simulation Model

About the role

Huawei Canada is seeking a Developer for a 12‑month contract to create power system and control component models for electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation. The position is within the Smart Grid Technology Lab, which focuses on real‑time simulation, microgrid energy management and advanced control systems for the digital power industry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop power system and control component models for EMT simulation under supervision.
• Implement models as C++ objects ensuring long‑term numerical stability.
• Optimize model execution speed and benchmark against widely used simulation tools.
• Produce algorithm documentation, user manuals and demo case files for the models.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience developing EMT simulation models and strong understanding of numerical methods.
• Familiarity with sparse matrix decomposition and parallel processing algorithms.
• Broad knowledge of power systems, power electronics, microgrids and distributed renewable resources.
• Advanced communication and relationship‑management abilities; knowledge of graph theory is a plus.
