Defense Analyst – Remote Contract ($90/hr)

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Defense Analyst with deep expertise in military operations and international humanitarian law (IHL) to work remotely on a contract basis. You will help shape taxonomies, frameworks, and evaluation tools that guide the ethical use of technology in conflict settings.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive taxonomies for military-use and defense operations across diverse conflict contexts.
• Create dual‑use triage frameworks to differentiate military and civilian applications of technology.
• Define clear boundaries for prohibited assistance under international humanitarian law.
• Design conflict‑risk rubrics and scenario‑based evaluation tools for defense activities.
• Evaluate and refine policy‑relevant benchmarks for AI model testing in defense and humanitarian contexts.
• Produce written and verbal analyses that articulate complex warfighting, targeting, and IHL concepts.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in military, defense analysis, or IHL.
• Advanced degree or equivalent operational experience in military science, security studies, international law, or related fields.
• Proven credibility and track record in warfighting, operational planning, targeting law, or humanitarian law application.
• Strong ability to interpret and apply conflict ethics, IHL, and defense policy frameworks in real‑world scenarios.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical and ethical concepts.
• Experience in research, policy analysis, or advisory roles within military, governmental, legal, or think‑tank environments.
