CRCL Crisis Responder – Friday to Sunday – Part‑Time

About the role

The CRCL Crisis Responder provides acute mobile crisis support and de‑escalation for individuals aged 13 and older experiencing mental health or substance‑use crises. The role operates Friday to Sunday and is part of AVI’s community‑led, peer‑assisted crisis response team in Victoria.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergency mental health and substance‑use calls, conduct in‑person assessments, and develop safety plans.
• Provide rapid de‑escalation, suicide/homicide risk assessment, and referrals to appropriate services or emergency care.
• Collaborate with team members and external care providers, maintaining person‑centered, trauma‑informed, and harm‑reduction approaches.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of relevant experience in mental health services, crisis de‑escalation, or mobile crisis response.
• Either lived/living experience with mental health crises or a degree in a mental‑health‑related field (counselling, social work, psychiatric nursing, psychology, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to manage hostile interactions, maintain emotional resilience, and uphold professional boundaries.

Required skills

• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence (normal driver status).
• Knowledge of crisis intervention best practices, including suicide and homicide assessments, safety planning, and harm‑reduction principles.
• Commitment to cultural humility, trauma‑informed care, and anti‑racism/decolonization practices.
