About the role
The Department of Linguistics at McGill University seeks a qualified Course Lecturer to teach LING 201 – Introduction to Linguistics during the Fall 2026 term. This fixed‑term position involves delivering three weekly lectures and supporting student learning throughout the semester.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare course materials, syllabus, and lesson plans following university guidelines.
- Deliver lectures on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (11:35 AM – 12:25 PM).
- Evaluate student performance, assign grades, and submit attendance reports.
- Supervise teaching assistants or other support staff as needed.
- Provide academic guidance to students and respond to course‑related inquiries.
Required profile
- Successful completion of at least PhD Evaluation 1 or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 120 hours of classroom teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant or Course Lecturer.
- For current graduate students, a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of core linguistic subfields: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
- Familiarity with sociolinguistics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, language variation, and acquisition.
- Effective pedagogical methods and ability to design course outlines.
