Counter Clerk – Part Time

About the role

The Counter Clerk delivers exceptional service to both retail shoppers and professional installers by accurately identifying, locating, and selling automotive parts and accessories. This position blends front‑line customer interaction, inventory handling, and basic technical support within a busy auto‑parts store.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers promptly at the counter or by phone and assist with parts identification based on vehicle make, model and year.
• Process cash, credit, check, return and exchange transactions while maintaining an accurate cash drawer and POS records.
• Maintain product knowledge, stay updated on catalog changes, and advise customers on proper part usage and related accessories.
• Support store operations such as freight receipt, shelf stocking, merchandising, fronting/facing and cleaning.
• Operate store equipment—including brake lathe, battery charger and diagnostic tools—following training and safety policies.
• Assist with inventory cycle counts, monthly stock adjustments and occasional part deliveries when a valid driver’s licence is available.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in automotive parts, retail or customer‑service environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and remain on your feet for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s licence for occasional deliveries.

Required skills

• ASE certification or comparable automotive technical training.
• Familiarity with cataloguing systems such as the Weatherly Index.
• Proficiency with point‑of‑sale (POS) and inventory‑management software.
• Experience operating brake lathe, battery charger and diagnostic tools.
