Community Worker – Support & Recreation Services

About the role

The Calgary Society of Community Opportunities is seeking a dedicated Community Worker to support clients in an urban community setting. You will assist individuals with special needs, lead recreational activities, and help coordinate events while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess clients' skill strengths and development needs and conduct follow‑up assessments.
• Assist clients and guests with special needs, accompany them to appointments and social outings.
• Plan, lead, and instruct groups in recreational, fitness, sports, arts and crafts programs.
• Manage and coordinate recreational, sport and fitness events, including assembling supplies and equipment.
• Maintain program statistics for evaluation and research, and prepare related reports.
• Ensure health and safety regulations are followed and provide emergency or first‑aid assistance when required.

Required profile

• College‑level certificate or diploma (3 months to < 1 year) or equivalent experience.
• 1–2 years of experience working in community, social service or recreational settings.
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal awareness, and judgement.
• Relevant certifications: Community Disability Studies, Developmental Services Worker, Non‑violent Crisis Intervention, Medication Administration, First Aid, CPR.
