Community Support Worker (Casual)

About the role

BGC Okanagan is hiring a casual Community Support Worker to plan, implement, and evaluate group programs for children and youth with diverse abilities. Using a strengths‑based approach, you will help participants achieve their goals through meaningful engagement and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in assessing, goal setting, and planning support programs, develop and implement Support Plans, and provide input on program evaluation.
• Assess participants’ needs and develop short‑term plans in collaboration with families.
• Support participants in daily life skills, social skills, and behavior management, including personal hygiene, cooking, money management, shopping, and safety.
• Facilitate physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
• Assist with the intake process and ensure all documentation is completed before services begin.
• Identify and manage potential emergency situations, including aggressive behavior, and report concerns to supervisors.
• Administer medication according to policy and maintain health and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date documentation of participant activities and progress.
• Transport participants between school sites, club sites, or on outings.

Required profile

• Diploma in a related human/social service field.
• At least one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Class 4 driver’s licence or willingness to obtain one promptly.
• Successful completion of agency screening, including a criminal record check.
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or refugee with legal status).
