Community Postmaster – Manage Local Post Office

About the role

Take on the responsibility of a community leader with Canada Post. The Postmaster reports to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager and is tasked with promoting and selling postal products and services to the public and businesses in the community.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the local community regarding Canada Post services and products.
• Sell and promote postal products and services to individuals and businesses.
• Secure suitable, centrally‑located, barrier‑free premises within 30 days of hire.
• Administer the post office to meet retail hours and delivery expectations.
• Manage postal revenue, assets and values.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Assist with effective management of mail delivery routes.
• Sort mail to postal boxes and supervise staff as needed.
• Keep the post office neat, presentable and clean in accordance with Canada Post standards.
• Operate the post office with diligence and efficiency.

Required profile

• High school diploma or provincial equivalent, with experience in business administration or retail service.
• Owned or leased premises that are suitable, central and barrier‑free, available one month before start date.
• Experience interacting with the public in a retail or service environment, including sales and cash transactions.
• Knowledge of regulations, methods and procedures for processing mail and providing postal services.
• Physical ability to lift mail containers up to 50 lb, push or pull boxes, sort mail and stand for extended periods.
