Communications Assistant - Varsity

About the role

The Communications Assistant – Varsity will support McGill Athletics by creating and publishing engaging social‑media content for varsity sports. Working under the immediate supervisor, you will bring game‑day moments to life online and help maintain the brand’s digital presence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide live, in‑game coverage on Instagram for a variety of varsity sports.
• Create game‑day graphics and score‑update visuals using Canva or Photoshop.
• Report scores in real time and compile post‑game data.
• Collaborate with players, fans and the athletics community to capture and share highlights.
• Produce promotional material and respond to information queries.
• Edit and review documents, audio, video and maintain web content as needed.
• Monitor and post content across Instagram and Facebook platforms.
• Provide technical support for graphic‑design software and A/V equipment.

Required profile

• Passionate about a wide range of sports and familiar with varsity athletics.
• Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced digital environment.
• Enjoy creating content and aware of how other schools or professional teams manage game‑day social media.
• Fluent in English and French; English proficiency assessed at level 4.
• Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec.
• High school diploma and at least one year of related experience.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $16.85 (CAD).
• Part‑time schedule (approximately 10 hours per week).
• Fixed‑term contract from August 2026 to March 2027.
• Opportunity to work on‑site at the Currie Gymnasium and engage with university athletics.
