Communications Assistant – Social Media (Student Role)

About the role

We are looking for a Communications Assistant B to support the University Advancement’s social media presence for McGill Alumni. This student‑focused role will work under the Digital Communications Officer – Social Media, creating and scheduling content that engages alumni, students, faculty and donors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the social media calendar for McGill Alumni channels.
• Produce and edit photos, short videos (reels) and copy for posts.
• Appear on‑camera to interview and engage with community members, presenting alumni stories from a student perspective.
• Schedule and publish posts across platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
• Track performance metrics, compile analytics reports and contribute insights for future content.
• Collaborate with other university social media teams to amplify alumni content.
• Generate ideas for innovative content formats and campaigns.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate student at McGill University.
• Interest in communications, marketing, digital media or journalism.
• Strong written communication skills and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Experience using social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).
