Communication Clerk – Emergency (Part‑Time)

About the role

The Emergency Department of Groves Memorial Community Hospital is seeking a part‑time Communication Clerk to support patient flow and information exchange. The role provides reception, clerical, and coordination services to ensure timely communication among staff, patients, and external facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage electronic patient admissions, transfers, and discharge processes.
• Answer and route incoming calls, including the dispatch phone, and relay messages accurately.
• Monitor incoming faxes, distribute them promptly, and flag urgent items such as physician orders or diagnostic results.
• Process physician orders and consultations, and reconcile imaging report discrepancies.
• Coordinate patient transfers to tertiary or specialized care centres, including PTAC number documentation.
• Arrange bed assignments and support bed flow in collaboration with clinical resource leaders.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and perform weekly maintenance of the pediatric Tele‑Resuscitation system.
• Maintain clerical supplies, assemble charts, file documents, and handle requisitions.

Required profile

• Completed medical terminology course (required).
• Medical Office Administration Certificate or related program (preferred).
• Minimum one year of recent unit clerk experience, preferably in an Emergency Department.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Meditech ADT/Order Entry systems.
• Demonstrated dependability with an excellent attendance record.
• Ability to pass a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and a pre‑employment health assessment.
