Co‑Founder & COO (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Co‑Founder & Chief Operating Officer to shape the business engine of a hybrid newsroom‑startup that blends live performance criticism with AI‑native editorial workflows. Working remotely from Sydney, New York or Montréal, you will partner with the founder to build revenue streams, operational infrastructure, and a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute a revenue model that integrates subscriptions, sponsorships, grants, and box‑office income.
• Lead financial modelling, budgeting, and long‑term planning through the 2027 production year.
• Develop and write grant proposals for Creative Australia, CALQ, Copyright Agency Cultural Fund and other funders.
• Identify and secure strategic partnerships with arts organisations, venues and festivals.
• Build and optimise operational systems using HubSpot, Zapier, Webflow and AI‑assisted editorial tools.
• Hire and onboard the founding team once revenue targets are met.
• Facilitate strategy sessions to refine the hybrid newsroom concept.

Required profile

• Proven experience running operations or a founding role in a media, arts, publishing or comparable early‑stage startup.
• Deep understanding of hybrid revenue models (subscriptions, arts funding, sponsorship).
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to be a co‑founder rather than an early employee.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
• Bilingual English/French is a plus.
