Co-op Researcher - LLMs & Computer Vision

About the role

Huawei Canada's Noah’s Ark Laboratory is seeking a motivated co‑op researcher to advance state‑of‑the‑art large language models and computer‑vision technologies. The 8‑12 month internship will involve hands‑on research on multimodal AI, with a focus on mobile‑friendly solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement deep‑learning models for image and video understanding, synthesis, and multimodal reasoning.
• Explore and prototype applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision‑Language Models (VLMs) for generation and intelligent agents.
• Perform prompt engineering, model adaptation, and fine‑tuning of LLM/VLM systems, considering mobile computing constraints.
• Evaluate algorithmic performance and contribute to research publications.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. program in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Experience applying machine learning or computer‑vision techniques to real‑world problems.
• Academic research exposure, such as paper authorship or conference participation.

Required skills

• Python programming and version control with Git.
• Deep‑learning frameworks, especially PyTorch.
• Familiarity with image/video generation models (e.g., GAN, Stable Diffusion, Flux).
• Knowledge of LLMs, VLMs, and multimodal AI concepts.
• Experience with reinforcement learning for LLM fine‑tuning.
• Practical use of OpenCV, Photoshop, and Blender for visual data handling.
