About the role
The Climate Change Section in ICAO’s Air Transport Bureau drives the organization’s strategic goal of environmentally sustainable aviation. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Environment and Cleaner Energy, the Chief leads the development of policies, studies and guidance on aviation’s contribution to climate change, including Sustainable Aviation Fuels, CORSIA and market‑based measures, while overseeing assistance and capacity‑building programmes for States.
Key responsibilities
- Lead integrated analysis, planning, delivery and reporting of climate‑change projects and programmes across ICAO.
- Represent ICAO at United Nations and related meetings, ensuring civil aviation interests are reflected in international climate fora.
- Supervise the development and timely delivery of outreach products related to aviation and climate change.
- Oversee CORSIA implementation, including the Central Registry, data submission coordination and quantitative impact assessments.
- Coordinate the review, update and implementation of the ICAO Global Framework for Sustainable Aviation Fuels, Lower‑Carbon Aviation Fuels and other cleaner energies.
- Manage ICAO Assistance, Capacity‑building and Training programmes supporting CORSIA, SAF and State Action Plans on CO₂ emissions reduction.
