About the role

The ByWard Market District Authority (BMDA) seeks a visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization through a period of renewal and celebrate its 200th anniversary. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will oversee strategic direction, daily operations, and stakeholder engagement for Ottawa’s historic market districts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and governance to achieve BMDA’s mission and strategic objectives.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations, financial stewardship, and program implementation.
• Lead market renewal projects and coordinate anniversary celebrations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with government partners, community groups, and private stakeholders.
• Advise the Board, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with municipal regulations.

Required profile

• Seasoned executive with extensive experience in municipal government or public‑sector environments.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes and drive strategic initiatives.
• Strong understanding of urban planning, commercial or tourism management, and community revitalization.
• Excellent communication and consensus‑building skills.
• Fluency in English; French is a strong asset.
