Casual Program Leader for School Aged Child Care

About the role

BGC Okanagan is seeking a casual Program Leader to support its School Aged Child Care programs across multiple sites in Vernon, BC. The role involves creating safe, engaging after‑school activities for children and ensuring their wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and participate in quality recreational, social, and educational programming.
• Orient new families and members to the program and club.
• Provide direct supervision of members, ensuring health, safety, and wellness.
• Mentor and guide Activity Leaders within the program.
• Build relationships with children, youth, and families, maintaining open communication with parents/caregivers.
• Transport members using club vans to and from school sites as needed.
• Prepare nutritious snacks and meals for members.
• Manage group and individual behaviour, providing support as required.
• Ensure compliance with agency policies, licensing regulations, risk management, and safety standards.

Required profile

• Education in childcare or experience planning, implementing, and evaluating childcare programs.
• At least one year of recent related experience.
• Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework covering child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
• First Aid Certificate and Food Safe certification or willingness to obtain them.
• Minimum age of 19 years as required by licensing.
• Successful criminal record check and agency screening.
