About the role
The Experiential Community Crisis Responder provides rapid, mobile mental health and substance‑use crisis support for individuals 13 years and older in the Comox Valley. Working with a peer‑assisted team, the role focuses on de‑escalation, safety planning and follow‑up care.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to mental health and substance‑use crises, triage calls and adjust response based on acuity.
- Conduct in‑person assessments, develop safety plans and coordinate post‑crisis follow‑up.
- Engage with other service providers (police, ambulance, fire, healthcare) and advocate for the person in crisis.
- Maintain cultural competency, incorporating Indigenous knowledge and trauma‑informed practices.
Required profile
- 2‑3 years experience in mental health services, crisis response or case management.
- Lived or living experience of systems of oppression, substance‑use or mental‑health challenges.
- Strong understanding of colonial impacts on Indigenous peoples.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate emotional resilience and adapt to unpredictable environments.
