Building Operator

About the role

The Building Operator is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and controlling the building systems of City‑owned facilities. This role ensures occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and the integrity of critical infrastructure through both on‑site and remote management.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and program building automation systems for HVAC, lighting, and related equipment.
• Schedule system operation to match occupancy and operational requirements.
• Support energy‑management practices and optimize system performance.
• Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and automation issues, and manage vendor repairs.
• Maintain parts inventory for critical systems and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Monitor daily system performance via BAS and site inspections, track energy and utility consumption, and ensure compliance with water‑treatment and safety standards.
• Respond to occupant concerns, provide technical guidance to staff and contractors, and assist with budgeting for equipment replacement.

Required profile

• Minimum three‑year diploma or degree in Energy Systems, Building Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience in building operations and maintenance.
• Valid MTO “G” class driver’s licence in good standing.
