BMS / HVAC Controls Technician

About the role

Black & McDonald’s is expanding its automation team and seeks a dedicated BMS / HVAC Controls Technician. Reporting to the Automation Manager, you will work on design, programming, installation, testing, troubleshooting and repair of building automation and HVAC control systems across commercial and institutional projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement automation programming, design graphics, and commission new construction projects while servicing existing clients.
• Perform all low‑voltage electrical work, including maintenance, installation, and repair of motor control centers, switches, panelboard components, transformers, and IO devices.
• Troubleshoot hardware and sensor issues, and manage shutdown, lock‑out, and start‑up procedures for automation systems.
• Provide on‑site estimating, recommend automation solutions, and support the HVAC service team with control installations.

Required profile

• 3+ years of HVAC automation experience in the institutional, commercial or industrial sector.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and teamwork abilities, with a focus on customer service.
• Ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and lift up to 30 kg.
• Valid Class 5 AB driver’s licence and willingness to join Local Union 424.

Required skills

• Experience with JCI FX and Honeywell BAS/HVAC systems.
• Automation programming and design graphics.
• Low‑voltage electrical work, including motor control centers, panelboards, transformers and IO devices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile device applications.
• Estimating and technical documentation.
