Bakery Sales Clerk – Customer Service & Cash Handling

About the role

We are looking for a friendly and reliable Bakery Sales Clerk to join our specialty shop in Ottawa. You will be the first point of contact for customers, handling transactions and providing product advice while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.

Key responsibilities

• Accept cash, cheque, credit card and automatic debit payments and operate the cash register.
• Greet customers, discuss product types, quality and quantities, and offer suggestions to increase sales.
• Provide accurate information about bakery merchandise and assist customers in making purchase decisions.
• Maintain product displays, ensure shelves are stocked and presented attractively.
• Perform suggestive selling and handle customer inquiries with professionalism.

Required profile

• Secondary school graduation or equivalent experience.
• 1‑2 years of experience in retail or food‑service sales.
• Valid Food Safety Certificate.
• Ability to work early‑morning shifts, weekends and a fast‑paced environment.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.

Required skills

• Operation of point‑of‑sale (POS) cash registers.
• Basic cash handling and transaction processing.
