Backend Developer – Remote Contract

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer to join our team on a contract basis. This remote position offers the flexibility to work 10‑40 hours per week while tackling challenging software engineering problems across backend, full‑stack, and infrastructure domains.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production‑level APIs, services, and database integrations.
• Review, debug, improve, and clearly explain code in diverse technical environments.
• Evaluate practical solutions involving testing, deployment workflows, and scalability trade‑offs.
• Communicate technical reasoning in writing, outlining why solutions work and alternative options.
• Collaborate with the customer’s team on technical reviews, implementation decisions, and problem‑solving exercises.
• Adapt quickly to new codebases, frameworks, and evolving technical requirements.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on software engineering experience in backend or full‑stack development.
• Proven ability to build, maintain, or review production‑grade applications, APIs, services, and databases.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals such as debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and technical trade‑offs.
• Excellent written communication skills for explaining complex engineering decisions.
• Comfortable reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code or technical specifications.
