Auxiliary Animal Care Technician

About the role
The Auxiliary Animal Care Technician supports the animal‑based research community at the University of British Columbia. Working within the Centre for Disease Modelling, you will provide high‑level care for small laboratory animals while collaborating closely with clinical veterinarians and animal care teams.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain daily cleanliness of the animal facility and ensure adequate supplies of food and bedding.
- Operate computerized animal anesthesia machines, diagnostic laboratory equipment, and specialized surgical tools.
- Monitor environmental conditions using digital tools and follow strict CCAC and UBC Animal Care Committee protocols.
- Assist with animal husbandry, health checks, and record‑keeping in a regulated, time‑sensitive environment.
- Provide on‑call support based on seniority, operational needs, and employee availability.
Required profile
- Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous materials and use personal protective equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Flexibility to provide a minimum of one shift per week, with no guaranteed schedule.
