Audio Visual Assistant C (Digital Composition Studios)

About the role

The Digital Composition Studios (DCS) at McGill University seek a part‑time Audio Visual Assistant to support daily studio operations. Working under the DCS Directors, you will maintain facilities, assist users, and provide technical support for classes, workshops, projects, and events.

Key responsibilities

• Check studios, equipment and work areas daily, reporting any issues.
• Manage studio bookings, room access and equipment loans following DCS procedures.
• Prepare rooms and gear for classes, workshops, rehearsals and student projects.
• Set up and troubleshoot microphones, audio interfaces, speakers, cameras, projection systems and other AV equipment.
• Assist students, instructors and teaching assistants with DCS software, recording equipment and studio workflows.
• Deliver introductory workshops, software demonstrations and tutorials.
• Support concert setup, sound checks, equipment operation and teardown.
• Document concerts and workshops in audio/video, organize resulting files.
• Maintain production equipment inventory, handle sign‑out, check‑in, transport and report faults.

Required profile

• High school diploma with at least two years of related experience.
• Familiarity with advanced Western art music, contemporary composition and technology.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
• English communication skills assessed at level 4 (high proficiency).

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of audio/video software.
• Advanced knowledge of graphic software.
• Experience with microphones, audio interfaces, speakers, cameras and projection systems.
• Proficiency with recording equipment and studio workflow software.
