About the role
The Associate Academic Advisor supports Arts Academic Advising Services at the University of British Columbia, delivering comprehensive guidance to approximately 14,000 undergraduate students across multiple degree, diploma and certificate programs.
Key responsibilities
- Advise students on admission policies, academic planning, program and elective selection, study abroad, experiential learning, transfer credit adjudication, and graduation.
- Provide advising through in‑person, email, phone and web‑mediated channels.
- Conduct registration information sessions for prospective and new Arts students.
- Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives to meet Faculty of Arts enrollment targets.
- Utilize information technology systems to manage student records and advising workflows.
- Supervise and mentor student peer advisors.
- Collaborate with Arts Academic Advising staff, faculty, departmental advisors and other university personnel.
Required profile
- Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently while reporting to the Manager, Academic Advising.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building holistic relationships with diverse student populations.
- Experience supervising peer advisors or similar student support roles.
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in higher education.
