Applied Scientist Manager, Tax Engine

About the role

Amazon’s Tax Engine organization is seeking a passionate and innovative science leader to elevate its scientific initiatives. The Tax Engine platform underpins every Amazon e‑commerce order worldwide, accurately computing and collecting sales tax and VAT for both physical and digital products.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of senior Applied Scientists and Software Development Engineers.
• Improve processes and methodologies to enhance team deliverables.
• Balance experimentation with delivery to achieve sustained impact.
• Partner with stakeholders and customers to define roadmaps for new products and services.

Required profile

• 3+ years of management experience for scientists or machine‑learning engineers.
• Strong knowledge of machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, and analytics.
• 3+ years of experience building machine‑learning models or algorithms for business applications.
• Experience delivering complex software systems, especially deep‑learning, machine‑learning, or computer‑vision solutions, to customers.
• Proven ability to communicate requirements, product features, and technical designs with users, technical teams, and management.
