Applied AI Engineer, Agents & Automations

About the role

The Applied AI Engineer, Agents & Automations will help make AI experiences reliable, useful, and production‑ready on Cohere’s North platform. You will collaborate with product engineering, modelling, and design teams to turn model capabilities into user‑facing systems such as agent builders, evaluation frameworks, proactive intelligence, and new collaboration interfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Build AI‑powered product experiences that enable users to create, configure, evaluate, and improve workflows across North.
• Design and ship new interfaces for interacting with models, including workflow builders, proactive assistants, and review flows.
• Develop evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure AI success in real enterprise workflows.
• Improve AI reliability through product design, prompting, context construction, tool‑use strategies, instrumentation, and feedback loops.
• Translate production failures, user feedback, and real‑task data into better product behavior, stronger eval suites, regression tests, and modelling signals.
• Collaborate with modelling, product, design, customer teams, and domain experts to define “good” outcomes for specific workflows and ship measurable improvements.
• Determine when a workflow needs a more constrained product experience, a better model interface, a stronger eval, or deeper modelling investment.

Required profile

• Experience shipping LLM‑powered, agent‑powered, or AI‑assisted product experiences into production and iterating based on real‑world feedback.
• Strong software engineering background comfortable working across backend systems, user‑facing product, data, evaluations, and model behavior.
• Focus on user outcomes and system behavior rather than just model metrics.
• Strong product sense, caring about how interface, workflow, and model work together to help users succeed.
• Enjoy debugging messy real‑world failures and turning insights into durable improvements.
• Ability to own ambiguous problems end‑to‑end and work across system boundaries to deliver genuinely useful solutions.
