Animal Care Technician

About the role
The University of British Columbia is seeking an Animal Care Technician to support its animal‑based research programs. Working within the Centre for Disease Modelling, you will ensure high‑quality care for small laboratory animals and maintain a safe, regulated environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide daily husbandry, cleaning, and supply management for rodent colonies.
- Assist Clinical Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technologists with animal handling, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
- Maintain compliance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) and UBC Animal Care Committee protocols.
- Operate and troubleshoot computerized anesthesia machines, diagnostic laboratory equipment, and digital environmental monitoring tools.
- Monitor and document health status, biosecurity measures, and resource utilization.
Required profile
- Experience working in a regulated animal research facility or similar environment.
- Ability to follow strict standard operating procedures and biosafety guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare.
- Effective communication with researchers, veterinarians, and team members.
