About the role
The Analytical Technician will join the CarbonCure research group to lead laboratory analytical activities investigating the link between cement material science and CO₂ reaction chemistry. Reporting to the Sr. Research Engineer, the technician will conduct analytical testing using specialized equipment to support CarbonCure’s carbon‑utilization solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze specimens for material testing according to established procedures.
- Conduct material testing using isothermal calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), quantitative X‑ray diffraction (QXRD), Carbon Sulphur analyzer, and FTIR.
- Maintain analytical equipment through calibration, verification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Batch, mix, cast, label, and cure concrete specimens for research and performance testing programs.
- Measure and document fresh‑concrete and hardened‑concrete properties.
- Compile, interpret, and present results using defined technical reporting formats.
- Author standard operating procedures and training materials for laboratory users.
- Independently perform and validate carbonation‑potential studies on construction materials.
- Ensure good housekeeping and compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies.
Required profile
- A university degree in chemistry, materials science, civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of cement chemistry, hydration, cement‑admixture interactions, and concrete performance.
- Experience preparing samples, conducting tests, compiling results, and interpreting data according to established procedures.
- Familiarity with concrete materials (cement, supplementary cementitious materials, aggregates, chemical admixtures) and concrete mixing, specimen preparation, curing, and testing.
- Experience with analytical techniques such as TGA, QXRD, Carbon Sulphur analysis, and FTIR.
- Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Strong written communication skills for technical reports, SOPs, and presentations.
- Creative, practical mindset with ability to design and assess testable experiments.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in an interdisciplinary, fast‑paced research environment.
