AI Data Security Intern – Researcher

About the role

Huawei Canada’s Digital Trust Lab is seeking an intern researcher to design cutting‑edge AI data security architectures and privacy‑preserving technologies for endpoint devices such as desktops, laptops, and mobile phones. The role involves turning advanced security theories into production‑grade defenses for Huawei Endpoint products and staying ahead of emerging threats.

Key responsibilities

• Research and design AI data security architectures and privacy protection blueprints tailored for endpoint devices.
• Prototype and build innovative AI data security and privacy‑preserving solutions, moving prototypes toward production‑grade defenses.
• Investigate global technology trends, regulatory changes, and emerging attack vectors, delivering actionable insights to strengthen AI systems.
• Collaborate with global research labs and product engineering teams to integrate security solutions into commercial products.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of system‑level security and privacy technologies (e.g., identity & access control, data sanitization, DLP, confidential computing).
• Strong expertise in AI‑specific security engineering, such as data poisoning protection, robust learning, or backdoor detection.
• Proven experience designing and developing security and privacy solutions for complex AI systems.
• Solid foundation in cryptographic concepts, including symmetric‑key and public‑key cryptography.
• Proficiency in at least one core programming language: C/C++, Java, or Python.
